About Unit 2
Unit 2, La lengua y la cultura (Language and Culture), asks the essential question: How do language and culture influence each other? You'll see that Spanish is not one uniform language — pronunciation, vocabulary, and even grammar shift from Spain to Mexico to Argentina — and that these differences are not "incorrect," they're cultural markers. At the same time, shared customs and celebrations across the Spanish-speaking world reveal common values even where dialects diverge.
Because the College Board does not weight the exam by unit, Unit 2's content is tested throughout the year, not on one exam day. It builds directly on Unit 1: the same interpretive skills (main idea, supporting details) and modes of communication now apply to sources about dialects, traditions, and the reach of Spanish as a global language.
Unit 2 continues to build cultural understanding through the 3 P's, now applied to language itself:
