About AP Physics 1

AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course that explores how the physical world works through the lenses of motion, forces, energy, and conservation. The course covers everything from a thrown ball to a spinning skater to water flowing through a pipe, building intuition for the laws that govern all mechanical systems.

The College Board organizes the content into 8 units. Units 2 (Forces) and 3 (Energy) are the most heavily tested at 18–23% each, while the rotational and oscillation units (6 and 7) are lighter at 5–8% each. Fluids was added as Unit 8 starting with the May 2025 exam. The exam itself includes 40 multiple-choice questions (80 minutes) and 4 free-response questions (100 minutes), with each section worth 50% of your score.

Every page on this site is aligned to the College Board's official AP Physics 1 Course and Exam Description and completely free. Use what works for your study style — flashcards for active recall, the cheat sheet for a one-page overview, podcasts for studying on the go, or practice questions to test yourself before the exam.
