About Unit 6

Unit 6, Los contextos globales (Global Contexts), is the course's final unit. It asks how global phenomena affect Spanish-speaking communities, what role individuals play in responding to those phenomena, and how complex issues affect a society's culture. Sources in this unit use more sophisticated vocabulary and sentence structure than earlier units, reflecting the increasingly complex issues under discussion.

Because the exam is not weighted by unit, Unit 6's content is tested throughout the year rather than on one exam day. This unit synthesizes ideas from across the entire course, environmental and policy issues connect to Unit 4's technology contexts, while history and communication tie back to Units 1 and 2.

Unit 6 applies the 3 P's framework to global issues:

Product
An environmental policy, a historical monument, a public transportation system
Practice
Participating in a community recycling program, commemorating a historical event
Perspective
What a community believes its responsibility is toward global challenges
