Fuente 1 (artículo): An opinion piece argues that public funding for murals and monuments preserves shared cultural memory and makes art accessible to everyone, regardless of income, not just museum visitors.

Fuente 2 (tabla): Public opinion on government arts funding in a hypothetical survey.

Grupo de edadA favor de fondos públicos
18 a 29 años72%
30 a 49 años61%
50 a 64 años54%
65 años o más47%

Support for public arts funding decreases with age in this survey.

Fuente 3 (audio): In a recorded interview, a museum director explains that private sponsorship can be unreliable and often favors art that appeals to donors, while public funding ensures a wider range of artistic voices and perspectives gets supported.

A
State your thesis. Clearly present your own position on public versus private arts funding, in one or two sentences, in Spanish.

✓ Model answer (earns the point)

(In my opinion, the government should fund public art because it guarantees that all people, regardless of their economic resources, can access it and benefit from its cultural value.)

Why it scores: The thesis takes a clear, defensible position on the specific question asked. A reader knows immediately what the essay will argue.
B
Integrate all three sources. Write one body paragraph that uses evidence from Fuente 1, Fuente 2, and Fuente 3 to support your position, and cite each source (e.g., “según la fuente 1…”).

✓ Model answer (earns the point)

Why it scores: All three sources are cited by name and used as evidence for the writer's own position, including a specific number pulled from the data table. Simply summarizing each source without connecting it to the argument would lose points.
C
Organize and connect. Write a short concluding sentence that restates your position, and list three cohesive devices (transitions/connectors) you would use to link ideas across the essay.

✓ Model answer (earns the point)

(In conclusion, although private sponsorship has its place, public funding of art remains essential to guarantee equitable access and a diversity of cultural voices.)

Cohesive devices (conectores): además (moreover), por otro lado (on the other hand), sin embargo (however), por estas razones (for these reasons), según la fuente… (according to source…).

Why it scores: A logical concluding statement that echoes the thesis without repeating it word for word, plus a variety of connectors that link claims and evidence across the essay, earns full credit for organization.
