Art is a record of history and identity
Murals, buildings, and literature don't just decorate, they document. A Diego Rivera mural preserves a political moment; a colonial church facade preserves a period of history; a novel written in magical realism preserves a culture's way of seeing the world. When you analyze a work of art on the exam, ask what moment or belief it was built to remember.

Beauty and value are defined by culture
What counts as beautiful, valuable, or well-designed is not universal. Fashion, architecture, and aesthetic standards shift from community to community and era to era. Sources that compare two cultures' art or design are usually testing whether you can describe difference without ranking one as objectively better.

Art can challenge as well as reflect
