Think in functions. Label chords as tonic, predominant, or dominant: it makes cadences and progressions much easier to identify.
Know the cadence checklist. A PAC needs V–I, both root position, tonic in the soprano. If any of those is missing, it's an IAC.
Scan for parallels and tendency tones. Check outer voices for parallel 5ths/8ves, and make sure the leading tone rises and the seventh falls.
Read the explanations even when you're right. Each one reinforces a fact that often returns in a different form on the exam.
